Rather Embarassed

Media Bias

In a statement, CBS
said former Texas Guard official Bill Burkett “has acknowledged that he
provided the now-disputed documents” and “admits that he deliberately
misled the CBS News producer working on the report, giving her a false
account of the documents’ origins to protect a promise of
confidentiality to the actual source.”

Is this the beginning of the end of big media? Will CBS News
survive the shame? I think they started their decline years ago. This
is just the latest symptom of a disease documented by Bernard Goldberg
in his book, Bias : A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News.

Ratings for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather (search) have dropped
24 percent in New York, 35 percent in Philadelphia, and 42 percent in
Atlanta since Rather first reported on those disputed National Guard
documents on “60 Minutes II? last Tuesday.

Familiar Roles for Rather and His Critics

Sixteen years ago Dan Rather, the CBS news anchor, squared off on live
television against Vice President George H.W. Bush, then running for
president. The interview turned into a tense shouting match that
cemented the impression among conservatives that Mr. Rather favors the
other side.

Advertisers Stick With CBS Despite Document Flap

Even though CBS News has taken a battering in the media for
using allegedly fake military documents on last week’s “60 Minutes II”
episode, advertisers and CBS affiliates said Wednesday they had no
reason to abandon the network.

They probably won’t jump ship until after the November sweeps.
That’s when the networks report the number of viewers and set their
advertising rates.

Danny Boy

Laugh, It's Funny Media Bias

This is an ode to Dan Rather.

Oh Danny boy, the blogosphere is calling,
And in their jammies, saying that you lied.
The party’s o’er, your news career is falling,
And e’en your peers are calling for your hide.

But come you back like nothing is the matter,
And say “These documents are real, you see?
You must believe it, coming from Dan Rather!
Although they look like forgeries they work for me.”

Oh Danny Boy, your See B.S. is dying,
and you have lost your credibility.
Just take the fall, for your department’s lying
Has wrecked the journey of the S. S. Jean Kerrie.

The masquerade you call “the news” has ended -
It’s time for someone else to head the show.
And one more time, it must be recommended:
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, you need to go.
