Pathetic Panthers

The Panthers look pathetic yesterday! This is the team that’s supposed to go all the way to the Superbowl this year? And they lose to the Saints? Jake threw two interceptions, not his best performance. They couldn’t hold on to the ball. In typical form, this game was decided by 3 points or less (23-20) in the last two minutes or overtime. I hope they do better next week.

Music of Styx

Music of Styx: Live With Symphony OrchestraWe were flipping through channels the other night and went past our local PBS affiliate and Dennis DeYoung was just starting to sing "Grand Illusion." Of course this was during pledge-a-thon week, when they show the best stuff. They wanted a pledge of $75 dollars and they’d send you the DVD of Dennis’ concert performance. Well, that was too rich for me so I went out on Overstock.com to find the CD version.

It’s excellent! It’s got a few things I’ve never heard Dennis sing before. It’s very interesting to hear Styx music with a full symphony orchestra. As I write this, I’m listening to an awesome a capella version of "Show Me the Way," a song that was written during the beginning of the Gulf War and was originally on the Edge of the Century album. What an awesome song to listen to now.

Chief Justice Roberts?

Justice

Bush Nominates Roberts as Chief Justice

President Bush announced this morning that he will nominate John G. Roberts as the Seventeenth Chief Justice of the United States.

The move, which was surprising primarily in its speed, avoids a prolonged public vetting of an entirely new nominee for the chief justice’s job.

I really think this is a mistake. I think Bush should have forced the Democrats to approve 3 nominees in rapid succession and then he could effectively remake the court. My choice would have been to elevate Clarence Thomas to Chief Justice, then appoint another judge to fill Thomas’ slot. This would force three simultaneous confirmations on the Senate and then the Democrats would have to stop obstructing the nomination process. There’s no way the country would stand for their antics in that situation.
