Fighting Each Other
The Church is losing influence in this country because we spend too much time either shining our shields or fighting each other.
Heal ThyselfIf you watch TV or read the papers, you may have noticed a vocal new movement among some religious liberals. Perhaps you’ve seen the television commercials where single mothers, gay couples, and others are literally ejected from their church pews by the push of a button. At the end of the ad, viewers are invited to visit a site called “Rejection Hurts” to share their own stories of being rejected by churches.
It’s not the Bible-believing conservatives that are ruining the church and causing the divisions. It’s the liberals who preach a social gospel and not the Bible that might be the cause of the Church’s downfall.
The truth is that the United Church of Christ — along with many liberal denominations — has suffered an alarming loss of members in recent years. Ironically, as they’ve become more “inclusive,” more and more members have left. As Jim Tonkowich comments, “It is not surprising that the head of a denomination that has lost over 40 percent of its members should blame outside forces for its plight rather than examine its own mistakes. Liberal theology has failed for the UCC and for all mainline churches. IRD reports about that. But we [conservatives] did not cause it.”
I’m proud to say that I am a member of a Bible-believing Southern Baptist church.

Sorry to hear you feel that way. If you ever want to come back, the door’s open. We’ve always got room for one more hate-filled bigot.

Christianity is in decline because science, logic, and rationality are becoming popular. That’s why fundies have to resort to nonsense like Intelligent Design in an effort to dumb down the children.

I got saved in an Independant Baptist church over 16 years ago. Over the past years, I have noticed a steady decline in the RELATIONSHIP aspect of Christianity, and an increase in the RELIGION portion.
After moving to the ‘bible-belt’ hoping to be around like-minded belivers… I have come to the conclusion that this area is inappropriately named.
Jason, nothing against you personally, or your church specifically, but I have been to two different Southern Baptist churches here in SC. I was asked to leave one of them because of my political views (which I never even discussed with anyone at the church), and another Southern Baptist church has treated me like I have leprosy because of those views.
Lord willing, I will never grace the door of another Southern Baptist church in my lifetime.
Churches that focus more on the number of ‘programs’ and activities they can have, rather than focusing on ministering to those in it’s congregation, and reaching out to those around it…. well I like to think that those are the churches that will be ’spit out of the mouth’ of Jesus as being lukewarm.
The church of today is DEFINATELY the church mentioned several times in the Bible - in the last days, many will turn away from the faith.
