Nebraska safe haven laws are being mis-used

Life

I’m sure some of you have heard news stories that some parents are using the Nebraska “safe haven” laws to dump children, some as old as 11 years, that they can’t control and don’t want anymore. It’s interesting to me to see that some of the people criticizing the Nebraska law are adult adoptees.

I don’t usually get this personal on my blog, but I think this issue is important.

Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided

Life

Reading through this comment thread reinforces my view that Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided. Not because I think abortion should be illegal, but because it’s not a federal issue. SCOTUS should never have take the case in the first place. The decision to abort is way too personal and it’s impossible for any law written at a national level to apply in every situation.

Do I think taxpayers should pay for abortions? Hell No! But then I’m a Libertarian and I don’t think the government should be in the health care business at all.

Major Victory for Life

PBA Ban Upheld by SCOTUS

The U.S. Supreme Court upheld a law that makes it a crime to perform “partial birth” abortions, allowing the first nationwide ban on a procedure as two justices named by President George W. Bush tipped the balance.

The justices, voting 5-4, said the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act is constitutional even though it lacks an exception for cases posing a risk to the mother’s health. The court also rejected claims that the law is so vaguely worded it would force doctors to forgo a commonly used, constitutionally protected abortion technique for fear of prosecution.

This is a great victory for those of us who believe in protecting innocent human life at all all stages of development. It’s about time our country ended the barbaric practice of sucking an unborn child’s brains from it’s skull.

Safe and Legal?

Life

Listen carefully pro-choice folks. If abortion is going to remain legal, I want abortion facilities held to the same standards as other outpatient surgical facilities.

Abortion Center in Ohio Forced to Close After Numerous Health Violations

State officials forced an abortion business in Cleveland to close after inspectors found numerous health and safety violations. They found more than a dozen problems at the Center for Women’s Health on the city’s east side, which prompted officials to reject the center’s request for a new state license.

In June, the Ohio Department of Health said CWH did not have a local transfer agreement that would allow it to bring women to a local hospital in cases of botched abortions and other medical emergencies.

If you want abortion to be “safe and legal” you should want the same thing. If you want women to have access to abortion everywhere, then you should want abortion facilities to be clean and run by reputable doctors with hospital privileges at the nearest hospital.

Plan B

Life

It looks like the FDA is going to go against a long standing policy and approve the “morning after” pill for OTC (over the counter) sales. Plan B is essentially a very high dose of the same medicine in birth control pills. The Food and Drug Administration has never allowed a nonprescription status for a high-dose drug when a low dose of the same drug needs a prescription.

Morning After Pill Will Do More Harm Than Good, Doesn’t Lessen Abortions

Abortion advocates claim that making the “morning-after pill” available over the counter would be safe and reduce pregnancies and abortions. The real-world experience shows just the opposite.
